Ivy on a fence. (Or maybe they're grapes? Botany's not exactly my forte.)

After the Fire I

In the Canadian Rockies in 2008 (Kootenay National Park, I think). There had been a devastating fire some years before -- yet the undergrowth, especially, came back very lush and green. Gives me hope for our New Mexican fires....

There was a wonderful day, on a trip a few years ago, when I came upon one fake animal after another.

North 10K Trail

Along the North 10K Trail a few weeks ago, right before the Sandia wilderness closed due to the extremely high risk of wildfires. I wish I could hike there -- but I imagine all the animals are really happy that the humans are gone.:)

Rabbit Ridge

Looking west from Rabbit Ridge, very near the border of Bandelier and Valles Caldera. My guess is that the Las Conchas fire has burned these trees to crispy snags.  It was a beautiful hike up there and, judging from the fire maps, the entire area has burned.

Yes, I know it will regenerate -- but not like this, not in my lifetime. I'm heartbroken.
